ABOUT Upper Arlington Music Academy: Our organization's goal is to provide quality music education in a fun and loving environment. We currently have over 130 students enrolled and have recently doubled our available studio space. The instruction we currently offer is Piano, Guitar, Flute, and Percussion. Our recent expansion was designed to supplement our current programs with new instruments.

LOCATION: We are located in central Columbus, Ohio, just west of the Ohio State University main campus. 

JOB DESCRIPTION: We are looking for string teachers to conduct private lessons for beginners and up. Set your own hours. Students are provided as they become available.

QUALIFICATIONS: Suzuki certification is required. Teaching experience preferred, but not required. Positive and fun personality is a must. Candidates should have some professional experience, even if not in music education.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Part-time Suzuki Piano Teacher, one or two afternoons per week with possibility of becoming full time in Fall 2004. Will teach weekly 30-minute group classes (4-6 students).

LOCATION: Newton, Massachusetts is a western suburb of Boston and accessible by public Transportation (subway) to the heart of Boston, a culturally rich city with many conservatories, world renowned Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Ballet and Boston Lyric Opera as resources for free-lancing, etc. Newton has several semi-professional and amateur orchestra ensembles as well as theatre and art centers. 

ABOUT THE Suzuki School of Newton: Founded in 1986 by Gwendoline Thornblade, Suzuki School of Newton currently has over 200 students and is located in the Parish Hall of Trinity Episcopal Church in the heart of Newton Centre. SSN offers instruction in violin, viola, cello, flute, recorder, piano and guitar. The program offers a full curriculum of Music Theory and orchestra and chamber music. SSN is very active in the community offering over 20 concerts per year and offering instruction through several outreach programs. The school has 2 16-week semesters, summer lessons and summer full and half-day music workshops.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Part-time Suzuki Piano Teacher, one or two afternoons per week with possibility of becoming full time in Fall 2004. Will teach weekly 30-minute group classes (4-6 students).

SUZUKI STRINGS TEACHER
FULL-TIME

LOCATION: In the newly renovated downtown Grand Forks area, we have a wonderful school system and youth orchestra program. We just completed a two year residency program with the Chiara quartet, and had the National Symphony Orchestra here in May. People here are supportive of the music programs. For those who are hockey fans we have the wonderful new Englestad Arena and the new Alerus where many a concert and activities are held. Grand Forks is a very friendly, safe community to live in.

ABOUT Scott's Fine Arts Studio: We are a facility which gives lessons to about 350 students and Kindermusik. We have 12 rooms a recital area. Each teacher is self-employed, and sets their own schedule. This can either be part time or full time as we do not govern the hours you want to teach. We do have room limited rooms so teachers that have more students are usually given priority. We had a teacher start with us last June and this May she had over 40 students. She is leaving due to schooling and acceptance into a masters program. Names and phone numbers of teachers for testimonials are available upon request.

QUALIFICATIONS: You must be Suzuki certified, and willing to help continue building our program here in the Greater Grand Forks, at our fine arts studio.

COMPENSATION: You set your fee. Usually a minimum of $20 per hour, ($28.00 /hour - $4.00 per 1/2 hour lesson).

ABOUT BRIGHT IDEAS CHARTER SCHOOL: Bright Ideas was a private pre-k through 12th grade school for 13 years when it converted to a charter public school in 1998. Enrollment is around 85 students of all ages. There is presently no music program. The Suzuki program would fulfill this need. The movie, "Music of My Heart" has inspired many at the school to desire the program. A new building is being built that will house science classes and the Music Studio.

COMPENSATION: Classes during school day: $8 per hour per student in group class, $12 per half hour private lessons.

PERKS: Use of the school's classroom and equipment for the teachers' own private after school and weekend tuition based lessons. All teachers at this school have use of a private ranch for camping, fishing, hiking.

The Collegeville-Trappe community is in Montgomery County Pennsylvania and is a lovely college town, rich in American History. Ursinus College is in the center of this quaint town.

REQUIREMENTS: Teach individual and group lessons from Twinklers through intermediate and advanced level students. The preferred applicant will have Suzuki training though Bk 2 and will work with the CMS to develop its growing Suzuki String program.

COMPENSATION: Commensurate with education and experience; Private hourly rate between $20-$25 per hour. Group hourly rate between $25 -- $28 per hour.

ABOUT THE CMS: The Community Music School will begin its 10th year of providing music instruction to students of all ages and levels of ability. The CMS has an enrollment of 500+ students and a faculty of 25 who teach nearly all instruments and voice, as well as early childhood Kindermusik classes. The school also offers supplemental musicianship classes and ensemble and performance opportunities. The CMS has been a certified member of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts since 1991.

The CMS is only 45 minutes outside of Philadelphia where numerous performance opportunities exist for talented performer/teachers who may be wishing to relocate.

SUZUKI PIANO TEACHER

LOCATION: Bermuda is located 2 hours off the American eastern seaboard. With a population of 65,000 its main industries are international business and tourism. The island enjoys a high standard of living and per capita income with strong value placed on the importance of education. Bermuda has no income tax and the Bermuda dollar is on par with the US.

REQUIREMENTS: At least three years Suzuki teaching experience with a Bachelor of Music or Masters Degree in Music. Suzuki teacher training through Book 4 is desirable. Applicants should be prepared to send a demo video of their teaching skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES: To teach individual and group lessons from beginner to advanced students; to organize and conduct recitals and assist with community performances.

COMPENSATION: Salaries start at $34/hour for a 36-week teaching year with excellent medical benefits offered. The Conservatory offers a two-year renewal contract based on a minimum number of hours per week. Assistance with relocation expenses and transportation to the island at the beginning of the contract is offered.

WORKING CONDITIONS: The Bermuda Conservatory of Music if Bermuda’s largest music teaching facility with over 800 students involved with traditional and Suzuki instruction in voice, piano and violin. In addition there is a large Kindermusik program on offer. A Faculty of 12 full time teachers, of which 3 teach Suzuki violin exclusively, instructs in classes from group piano for beginners through Book 10.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The University of Memphis invites applications for the position of Suzuki Piano Coordinator. This is a nine-month, non-tenure track position in the Department of Music.

STARTING DATE: August 20, 2000

LOCATION: The University of Memphis is a comprehensive urban university located in Memphis, Tennessee, one of the most musically active communities in the Mid-South. Current enrollment is approximately 20,000 students. The Suzuki Piano Program is a division of the Community Music School, which enrolls almost 1,000 students in non-credit study. 

REQUIREMENTS: Masters degree and teacher trainer status with Suzuki Association of the Americas. Demonstrated success as a Suzuki Piano Teacher at all levels with proven administrative skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES: *Teach Suzuki piano students in the Community Music School
*Teach graduate/undergraduate Suzuki Piano Pedagogy classes in the Department of Music
*Organize and administer activities of the Suzuki Piano Program and supervise apprentice teachers.

COMPENSATION: Competitive and negotiable

WORKING CONDITIONS: The Community Music School utilizes teaching and administrative space in the Music Building and the adjacent College of Communications and Fine Arts. There are 53 full- and part-time teachers in the CMS, teaching in the areas of Applied Music, Suzuki Strings, Suzuki Piano and Kindermusik.

JOB TITLE

SUZUKI PIANO INSTRUCTOR

LOCATION: CYM is located in Wexford, 25 minutes north of Pittsburgh, PA

REQUIREMENTS: A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in music or significant professional music experience. Training in Suzuki pedagogy is required. Preference will be given to applicants with training in any method of Early Childhood Music.

RESPONSIBILITIES: (NOTE: This is an abbreviated list. Please apply for an official job description.)
* Teach private piano lessons to Suzuki and Traditional students who demonstrate beginning through advanced levels of ability.
* Team-teach group piano lessons to these students.
* Conduct evaluations for all piano students twice per semester.
* Prepare for and assist children at 2-3 formal recitals per year.
* Add to the existing curriculum.

LOCATION: Worcester, MA

REQUIREMENTS: A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in music or significant professional music experience. Training in Suzuki pedagogy is required. Experience in teaching small groups of children is preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES: * Initiate a program for students in grades K - 2 with two small group lessons per week.
* Offer lessons to students in grades 3 - 6 before or after school.
* Coordinate with vocal music teachers and classroom teachers.
* Prepare for and assist children at 2-3 formal recitals per year.

COMPENSATION: * Commensurate with experience, education, and duties.

JOB TITLE

SUZUKI VIOLIN INSTRUCTOR

LOCATION: Ames, Iowa

REQUIREMENTS: * Minimum Suzuki training in violin from pre-twinklers through Book 7.
* Love for children, people, music, and musicianship.
* Teaching experience is preferred.
* Ability to teach either cello or viola will be an asset.`

RESPONSIBILITIES: * Teach 40- 45 students in an established studio - pre-twinkle through Book 7 level.
* Actively coordinate group lessons, play-ins, and recitals.
* Coordinate activities with three other Suzuki teachers for a total of 100 students.

COMPENSATION: Competitive salary $26.00 - $35.00 per hour, dependent upon education level and previous teaching experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS: The Suzuki Violinists of Ames is an established program which includes 100 violinists and is supported by a parent organization that actively assists teachers, students, and parents in recruiting new teachers, coordinating activities, aiding in preparation for performances, and gathering funds to accomplish these goals.
