JOB DESCRIPTION:
The University of Memphis invites applications for the position of Suzuki Piano Coordinator. This is a
nine-month, non-tenure track position in the Department of Music.

The University of Memphis is a comprehensive urban
university located in Memphis, Tennessee, one of the most musically active communities in the Mid-South. Current enrollment is
approximately 20,000 students. The Suzuki Piano Program is a division of the Community Music School, which enrolls almost 1,000 students in
non-credit study.
REQUIREMENTS:
Masters degree and teacher trainer status with Suzuki Association of the Americas. Demonstrated success as a Suzuki Piano Teacher at all
levels with proven administrative skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Teach Suzuki piano students in the Community Music School
*Teach graduate/undergraduate Suzuki Piano Pedagogy classes in the Department of Music
*Organize and administer activities of the Suzuki Piano Program and supervise apprentice teachers. COMPENSATION:
Competitive and negotiable
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The Community Music School utilizes teaching and administrative space in the Music Building and the
adjacent College of Communications and Fine Arts. There are 53 full- and
part-time teachers in the CMS, teaching in the areas of Applied Music, Suzuki Strings, Suzuki Piano
and Kindermusik.
The University of Memphis Music Department has a full-time faculty of 45 with
approximately 500 music majors. Degree programs include: Bachelor of Music in performance,
sacred music, music history, composition, music education, music business, recording technology, jazz and studio music
performance, and jazz and studio music composition / arranging; Master of Music in
performance, sacred music, music history, Orff-Schulwerk, music education, pedagogy (including Suzuki Piano Pedagogy) and jazz
and studio music; Doctor of Musical Arts in composition, performance, sacred music and music education; Doctor
of Philosophy in musicology.
